Website Migration – shut down of forums and all comments Monday night

All forum posts and all posting of comments of any kind will be cut off this coming Monday night at approximately 9pm Pacific, midnight Eastern, 0400 Tuesday UTC.

This website is migrating to a new server and to new software with significant enhancements for the user community.

the migration of the forums is going to take a while, so they will be shut down for the duration (which shouldn’t be more than two weeks and hopefully less). The forums will be readable, but no posting.

Hello Seasteaders!

We want to say ‘Thank you!’ to the many generous supporters who have donated to The Seasteading Institute in the closing days of 2011. If you haven’t yet contributed, we hope you will consider making a generous tax-deductible donation to support our programs for 2012. Your gift will be matched dollar for dollar by the Thiel Foundation. This is a great opportunity to fund our efforts towards a drastically improved world.

December Meetup with Talk on Practical Aquaculture

Join us for an evening of exciting talks, brainstorming and socializing with some of the most interesting people in the seasteading movement. This time we continue with practical topics, and Mike Doty will present a talk on Aquaculture for Seasteads. He will cover the possibilities for the industry in general, and look specifically at salmon as a species to be farmed (sales, feed conversion, growth rate, etc).

Suborbital Space Endeavor Finds a Solution at Sea

At The Seasteading Institute, we look at the ocean and see an opportunity to experiment with new forms of government. However, we recognize that the first seasteaders are likely to have more narrow purposes which enable them to profit from specific advantages that international waters possess over land.

National Geographic documentary featuring The Seasteading Institute

Last week, National Geographic invited The Seasteading Institute to Galveston, Texas to shoot a documentary aboard a dry-docked oil rig. It will be a segment in a six-part series on the oceans. Director of Engineering George Petrie and Board of Engineering Advisor Greg Castleman spoke about how an oil rig could be refurbished as a residential and business seastead, and Senior Director Randy Hencken and I talked about the need to provide a new frontier for governments and a new space for innovation.
