Some more information on the conference:
If you'd like to share rooms to save money - here's a forum thread to coordinate.
If you know of any appropriate places, please promote the conference, and link to this post!
I made a wiki signup page for the conference (October 10th in Burlingame, CA, USA). So far it's just me on there, so please add yourselves :). Also, we could use a couple more people to help organize and run the conference, if you are interested please email conference@seasteading.org.
This is not a "sit around and listen to a few presenters" sort of conference. Instead, we're going to have a bunch of small workshops where groups brainstorm about solutions to some of the challenges we face, research those solutions, and come up w/ recommendations. Examples include: Geographic location, Business plan for seastead resort, Transportation to/from seastead, Marketing/PR (making our ideas sticky), etc. You can suggest more workshop topics on the wiki.
The cost for the conference will be $195, including food (but not a hotel room). This is our cost for the space, food, and equipment (projectors, internet access).
We'll be posting a discount code for rooms at Embassy Suites, as well as information about cheaper hotels within walking distance.
Our first annual conference will be Friday, October 10th, at Embassy Suites in Burlingame, CA. There will also be a reception Thursday evening (10/9), and an informal breakfast Saturday morning (10/11).
With my injured shoulder, work has been slow this month.
Main areas this week - pictures, conference, volunteers, wiki.
Biggest thing this week is tons of web traffic today due to links from high-traffic sites (13K visits so far today). We've got some graphs below.
We're considering a couple different locations and dates for our first annual conference in the fall, and would like your feedback. We're tentatively planning for October 5th or 12th, in the SF Bay Area. So please let us know if there is another major related event that conflicts with these dates.
For location, we have two main possible areas:

America's first cement ocean-going vessel "Faith" was built in a Redwood City shipyard and launched from the port there in 1918. It never saw military action as the Armistice was signed a few months later (Redwood City Public Library). (Coincidentally, we are thinking of holding our fall conference in Redwood City, and perhaps locating our offices there as well).
