Hotel
The conference will be held at the Cathedral Hill Hotel in San Francisco, CA. (Google Maps link).
Conference attendees may reserve discounted rooms by calling 800-622-0855 and identifying themselves as "The TSI Annual 2009 Conference." Room rates range from $79 - $109, excluding taxes.
Hotel amenities include a coffee shop and a casual restaurant in close proximity to the conference center. Wi-fi is available in hotel rooms and the lobby for $10/day, or free for AT&T customers. Wi-fi is available in the conference center for $50/day. (This price was unfortunately not flexible due to a contract the hotel has in place with AT&T.)
If you'd like to stay someplace fancier, we recommend the Queen Anne Hotel a few blocks away. Reservations are 1-800-227-3970.
Neighborhood
The Cathedral Hill hotel is in the heart of San Francisco, blocks from City Hall. A wide variety of dining options is nearby, from the ultra-casual San Francisco landmark Tommy's Joynt across the street, to fine dining such as Ruth's Chris a few blocks away.
Cruise
The Santa Rosa and The California boats are located at Pier 3 in San Francisco (Google Maps link). Parking and directions can be obtained here.
Airports
The closest airport is San Francisco (SFO). Oakland (OAK) is a bit further. San Jose (SJC) has mass transit options to get to San Francisco as well (a bus and a train connection).
The last two hours of the day on Tuesday, September 29th will be in an unconference format. This means that participants in the conference will be allowed to present their own talks. We feel that this is a great fit for seasteading; giving everyone a platform to speak in the same way we hope to give everyone a platform for self-governance.
Any attendee to the conference may submit a talk idea by filling out this form. If there are more proposals than available slots, all proposals will be posted for public voting before the conference, and the most popular choices will be selected. Voting has already begun, so vote early and vote often! The unconference schedule will be posted by the day of the conference. You must be registered to attend the conference in order to be considered.
For more details, visit our unconference FAQ.
You may also be interested in Ephemerisle, our first-ever floating festival of politics, community, and art, which starts a couple days after the conference. Consider attending; Ephemerisle will be a first baby step of seasteading in action. History in the making!
